Tamoxifen is used to treat breast cancer that has spread to other areas of the body. It is used in both males and females. It blocks the estrogen activity in the breast, which leads to the growth of some breast tumors which require estrogen to mature. Tamoxifen is found in a class of drugs known as Antiestrogens.
Tamoxifen is a hormones / antineoplastics and a selective estrogen receptor modulators that are used to treat breast cancer, which has moved to other parts of the body. It can also be used to reduce the chance of breast cancer in high-risk patients such as a family history of breast cancer and treat breast cancer in certain patients after radiotherapy and surgery.
Tamoxifen blocks the growth of break cancer and works by interfering with the effect of estrogen in the breast tissue. Do not use this drug if you are pregnant because it may harm the unborn baby. You can use a barrier form of birth control such as diaphragm with spermicide or a condom.
