Ocufen works by preventing cyclooxygenase (COX) which is a substance in the body. COX is involved in the production of several chemicals in the body such as prostaglandins. Prostaglandins get produced as a response to certain diseases and injury in the body.Ocufenprevents the production of these prostaglandins and, therefore, reduces pain and inflammation. Ocufen further assists in surgery by preventing the pupil from growing smaller. It is known that eye surgery can trigger production of prostaglandins that can result to the pupil constricting.
