Flagyl is a drug used to treat a vast array of infections. Specifically it targets bacteria, known as anaerobic bacteria, which do not use oxygen to grow. This makes it a highly useful drug for quite a lot of infections, ranging from bacterial vaginosis and peritonitis, to H. pylori infection and pseudomembranous colitis. It works by disturbing the synthesis of DNA inside anaerobic organisms. Flagyl has numerous interactions, some of which cause nausea and vomiting, such as that which occurs with alcohol.

The dosage for Flagyl may differ depending on the individual that it is being used to treat, as well as the condition that it is being used to treat. Below you will find the average dose for a few of the conditions.
- Adult Dose: 500 mg three times daily
- Adult Dose: 250 mg tablets three times daily for one week
- Adult Dose: 500 mg twice daily; alongside clarithromycin and a proton-pump inhibitor
- Adult Dose: 750 mg orally once daily
- Adult Dose: 7.5mg/kg to be administered every six hours
