Amevive is a protein that reduces actions of the immune system responsible for causing psoriasis. Amevive is used to treat plaque psoriasis. Symptoms of psoriasis include inflammation of the skin and flaking of the skin. Amevive is being studied in the treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and T-cell non-Hodgkin. Amevive is a fusion protein that combines part of an antibody with the protein that blocks the growth of T cells. Amevive works by inhibiting the activation of CD4 cells on the cell membrane thereby preventing the costimulatory molecule of CD2 interaction. Amevive can also induce apoptosis of memory effector T lymphocytes responsible for psoriatic symptoms.

The recommended regimen for Amevive medication is a course of 12 weekly injections. The CD4+ cells count should be closely monitored during the course to ensure that the required CD4+ count is maintained. When the count falls below 250 cells/microliter, the drug should be discontinued to avoid more effects. Amevive should be used as prescribed. The most commonly used regimen is as below; however, a doctor may prescribe different dosage depending on the state of the body and the interaction between the drugs.
- 7.5 mg once a week as an IV bolus
- 15 mg once every seven days as an IM injection
