Managing levels of aldosterone can regulate levels of salt and water in the body. Also, it is used in treating fluids retention (edema) in people with cirrhosis of the liver, congestive heart failure, and nephrotic syndrome (kidney disorder). This medication is also used to treat or prevent hypokalemia or low levels of potassium in the blood. Dosage of Aldactone depends on the individual and the condition being treated. To avoid stomach upset, you may take Aldactone with food or milk. It is recommended that you take your dose early in the day in order to prevent getting up in the night to urinate.
